Professional Development
Proposals

BC HRMA accepts proposals on an ongoing basis from qualified speakers interested in participating in our professional development programming, which runs September through June each year. Proposals can be submitted through our online process. Prior to submitting a proposal, speakers are encouraged to read each of the following sections:

Suggested Content

Proposals are accepted for two-hour, half-day or full-day workshops, multi-speaker events, and web-based learning activities that support BC HRMA in providing core programming related to the seven CHRP Required Professional Capabilities (RPCs) defined by the Canadian Council of Human Resources (CCHRA) and hot topic programming related to current trends, opportunities and challenges that impact HR practitioners in B.C.

As applicable, proposed sessions should:
  • Incorporate the application of strategies and use of tools; enable HR practitioners to return to their workplaces and apply new strategies, tools, and skills.
  • Engage the audience in discussion and be responsive to questions.
  • Use data and examples that are relevant to the local market (i.e., Canadian, BC, local content).
  • Consider the current state of the economy and labour market.
  • Use case studies and real-world examples to illustrate how theory is applied.
Sector and industry specific proposal will be considered, as well as topics outside the field of HR that may be of benefit and interest to HR professionals. All submitters are encouraged to include or partner with clients, or to co-present and share real-life examples of your topic.

BC HRMA asks presenters not to actively sell their products or services during their presentations. Knowledgeable speakers who provide the audience with useable and relevant information will easily pique interest and be asked for further resources.

All speaker proposals will be reviewed on a bi-weekly basis to support responsiveness to current issues. In addition, proposals will be reviewed at three points during the year (at the end of May, August, and November) to help set core programming. Proposals will be considered active for one year from the date of submission. Selected presenters will be notified.
