Mentoring

The BC HRMA Professional Mentoring Program (PMP) provides the framework for members to be matched with other members for the purpose of enhancing professional development in a meaningful and supportive way. The program provides the resources and training to ensure knowledge sharing and personal growth. The end result is a win/win for both mentor and mentee!

This member-only program runs annually January to June, allowing participants to set achievable goals within a specific timeframe. Whether you are a newcomer to the field of HR or a senior practitioner, the PMP can support you to expand, refine and build new skills. Here’s what members are saying about the successful program:

“The program structure worked well. We followed the Program Guide and that was very helpful for those who like a structure to work within. My mentor was great and I feel we were very well matched.”

“The match I was provided was excellent; she guided, suggested and assisted me in growing my network. Amazing!”

“It was great! Good match both at the professional and experience level as well as the personality fit. Thank you.”

Program benefits include:

  • Enhancing your HR career by gaining new insights from a different perspective
  • Making a significant impact in a colleague's professional development
  • Earning 1.5 CHRP points per hour of participation towards recertification of your CHRP designation (for mentors and mentees)
  • Building effective relationships with other HR professionals through your partnership and by attending mentoring-specific events
  • Receiving an exclusive program participant discount to attend a Successful Mentoring: A Practical Approach professional development workshop in your region
  • Attending a regional Wrap Up event to celebrate successes and honour volunteers
To participate in the program you must:

Mentor: A mentor is an experienced person who advises, coaches, and helps support the professional development of a mentee by providing their guidance, expertise, and knowledge. The mentor, while helping the mentee to achieve goals, does not set the goals.

Mentee: A mentee is an individual who receives advice, coaching, assistance and feedback from a more experienced person over a set period of time, resulting in the enhancement of the mentee’s professional career. The mentee must have clear goals and be willing to be guided and advised in order for the relationship to be successful.

2010 Orientation Sessions:
Orientation sessions, whether in-person or online, are open to program participants only. To find an orientation session in your region, please refer to BC HRMA's online calendar or contact your Member Relations Manager.

Please note that while every effort is made to provide all applicants with a match, BC HRMA cannot guarantee that you will be placed in the program as this is determined by the number of program volunteers.
