Managing the Dysfunctional Employee - a Legal Perspective
Program Summary:
A challenge made all the more difficult by the economy and tight bottom line is the difficult job of enforcing employee accountability while minimizing your organization's liability and potential exposure to wrongful dismissal, human rights and employment standards claims. This workshop will enable you to stay in control and on the high road when managing difficult employees. Through performance management, discipline and human rights compliant management of medical leaves, you will achieve one of two acceptable outcomes: (1) a renewed commitment to the organization or (2) a mutually acceptable exit from the organization.You Will Learn:
- Identify behaviours as requiring a disciplinary or non-disciplinary response, or a combination
- Address a suspected medical issue that may be interfering with an employee's performance
- Develop & document appropriate responses to performance issues & manage the employee reaction
- Hold the employee accountable, whether he/she is at work or on medical leave
- Develop an exit strategy for a difficult employee
Presenters:
Veronica Ukrainetz, has throughout her 15 year legal career restricted her practice to labour relations, employment and workplace related human rights law. her law firm, Ukrainetz Law Corporation provides strategic legal advice to employers, both unionized and non-unionized. Her clients cover all industries and sectors, including government, financial institutions, the hospitality industry, private health care, private businesses, forestry, transportation, First Nations and colleges.Veronica is a strong advocate of preventative and proactive employment practices. She encourages her clients to utilize her as a strategic partner, to work co-operatively, but firmly with employees and former employees to resolve issues and to treat litigation as a last, not a first resort.
