Building a Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy

Friday March 26, 2010 (Webinar) Registration Deadline: March 19. Please register before this date to ensure event is not cancelled. CHRP CE Credits: 2.00 Code #035-105

Program Summary:

What does it mean to a company - Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)? Why is it such a big buzzword these days?

This webinar will support you in understanding why companies are focusing on CSR, in both their reporting and in their strategic planning and decision making - triple bottom line and otherwise.

David Procter from BC Hydro will guide us through a session which examines these questions and talks about BC Hydro's own experience - and how the organization is getting involved.

You Will Learn:

  • The definition of CSR
  • The benefits of CSR to organizations (from an HR perspective)
  • Key steps to develop & implement an effective CSR strategy
  • Ways to overcome common challenges to implementing a CSR strategy

Presenters:

David Procter, Manager of the Lead by Example Program at BC Hydro, is a graduate of UBC with a Commerce degree (don't ask when) and earned his professional accounting designation (Certified General Accountant - CGA). David spent three years working at the WCB as a claims adjudicator and an assessments officer, and 18 years at Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCHA) as it went through its various forms, starting as a Finance Clerk at the Richmond Hospital and ending as the Regional Director of Administration and Finance for the Facilities Department. Now at BC Hydro as the Manager of the Internal Energy Efficiency and Conservation program called "Lead by Example" (since July, 2008), David is involved in everything from finding energy efficiency projects, to implement to getting funding for projects, to engaging all BC Hydro employees on conservation issues, from the grassroots to the Executive.
