Regional Advisory Councils
Want to help plan future BC HRMA initiatives?
The Advisory Councils provide input regarding Professional Development session topics, market trends and regional requests to make BC HRMA truly a provincial entity.
The Advisory Council is made up of members representing a broad range of HR experience levels and areas of practice. Within each regional Advisory Council are various committees which shape the growth and development of BC HRMA and its members.
Aside from the positions of chair, vice chair and secretary, the following committees within the Advisory Council help contribute to the overall strategic and operational activities of the council.
Volunteer Coordination
Liaise with other advisors to determine where volunteers are needed.
Seek out people to volunteer for the various roles and provide the volunteers with the tools necessary to fulfill their responsibilities. Committee members develop plan and deliver recognition programs for volunteers to thank them for their time, experience and expertise.
Welcome Committee
The Welcome Committee's primary responsibility is to contact and welcome new members to the association, highlight the benefits of membership, and promote involvement in BC HRMA.
They also gather feedback and expectations from members, and pass such information back to the advisory councils to create a more responsive professional association.
This is a terrific opportunity to meet peers in your field and learn more about the benefits of belonging to BC HRMA.
HRVoice Committee
Do you want to have a larger voice in the HR Community? HRVoice is BC HRMA's weekly e-newsletter keeping our members abreast of what's happening at BC HRMA and in the world of HR.
Members of this committee contribute, and encourage contributions, to the HRVoice from other members, co-ordinate regional articles and communications for each Advisory Council and. help gather feedback on the HRVoice. This group meets once a month (via teleconference) for 1 hour.
PR Marketing Committee
Volunteers identify opportunities to raise the profile of BC HRMA within the community. This includes building partnerships with local businesses, liaising with media and actively raising the profile of the CHRP designation.
Post Secondary Liaison
This volunteer committee is dedicated to encouraging students in post secondary HR programs to become members of BC HRMA. They work to increase student participation in events, and assist in administration of student memberships, awards/scholarships. Members attend post secondary classes to inform the new wave of HR professionals about the benefits of BC HRMA and CHRP.
Mentoring Coordinator
Coordinates the BC HRMA Mentoring Program, which matches an established practitioner to facilitate a junior peer's smooth integration into the BC human resources community. Provides support and guidance for all participants in the mentoring program. Members of this committee coordinate and participate in orientation and training for new matches and organize a mentor/ mentee social event.
Professional Development Coordinator
Assists determining specific learning needs for the region. Schedules and hosts CHRP study groups and continuing education opportunities within the region, drawing on expertise of members to lead sessions and be available for questions.
Member Events Coordinator
Works with regional BC HRMA staff to schedule regular networking, social events and business meetings for the region.
Professional Development Council
Assists in setting the professional development strategy for BC HRMA.
Activities include: assessing members needs, sourcing and evaluating speakers developing and reviewing surveys, to ensure the bar for BC HRMA's continuing education program is raised to deliver our mission of advancing professional people practices.
Sub committees of the Professional Development Council include areas such as; Research, Best Practices, Curriculum Alignment, Privacy, Speaker Management, Delivery Channels, Marketing, Academic partnerships
Roundtables
Autonomous special interest groups who conduct regular meetings to share knowledge and network with other HR professionals who share the same focus. Roundtables occur either bi-weekly or monthly. Further information on Roundtables
Online Discussion Moderators
Become an online discussion moderator for one of our Roundtables. It's easy; you can do it from your home while staying connected to your peers. Perfect opportunities for stay at home parents.
Workshop Hosts
Come host a workshop. The immediate benefit to you. You get to attend the session for FREE.
Hosts attend an orientation session. Responsibilities include: arriving early, greeting the speaker and attendees, introducing the speaker, thanking them at the end of the seminar, and course evaluations. Depending on the location, there may be some light clearing duties as well.

Conference Steering Committee
From conception to execution, the steering committee plans all aspects of the conference from theme to onsite activities, to ensure maximum benefit to BC HRMA and its members. The steering committee consists of the chairs from all conference committees.
Professional Development Committee
Design a professional development learning component for the conference, including major theme, topics and speaker selections to ensure the highest quality learning experience for BC HRMA members.
Events/Programs Committee
Design and plan the networking/social/wellness components for the conference to ensure maximum participation opportunities for all attendees and to enhance the overall theme of the conference.
Marketing Committee
To create materials to promote the BC HRMA Annual Conference to members, non-member media and assume public relations role in promotion of the conference.
Awards Committee
To develop criteria for both the Award of Excellence and the Rising Star Award. These awards recognize HR professionals who have made outstanding contributions to their field. The awards committee also organizes the Annual Awards Events to publicly recognize the nominees and winners.
Sponsorship Advisory Committee
Help develop sponsorship opportunities, by identifying and contacting potential sponsors,
familiarizing them with BC HRMA and the various opportunities available during conference and other special events.
Showcase Advisory Committee
To provide advice, recommendations, suggestions and ideas for the Showcase, to ensure maximum benefit to the attendees and the exhibitors.
PeopleTalk Committee
The committee is comprised of a cross-section of HR professionals, including consultants, employees, and labour relations lawyers. Members brainstorm and discuss story ideas for each upcoming issue of PeopleTalk magazine. Committee members volunteer to write most of the PeopleTalk content. This is an excellent opportunity to participate on a team-oriented committee to discuss current HR issues and exercise your writing skills.
The committee meets four times a year on Wednesday evenings for about an hour; members are required to attend a minimum of two meetings a year.
BC HRMA Administration
Board members are nominated and elected each year and the Annual General Meeting.
Members for the Executive, Finance, Nomination and Professional Development Committees are all nominated from within the Board of Directors.
Board of Directors
The mandate of the Board is to establish the vision and mission and set the strategic direction for BC HRMA.
The Board has responsibility for the whole organization. In making decisions the Board must consider the unique needs of members (geography, experience level, organizational level, functional area etc.) the needs of the provincial organization.
Executive Committee
The President will act as the Committee Chair. The Executive Committee is composed of the President, Past President or President-Elect, Secretary/Treasurer and three Vice-Presidents.
The mandate of the Executive Committee is to oversee and carry on the work of the Board and the Association between Board meetings.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is accountable to oversee the financial management of the organization, including its financial instruments, budgets, controls and reports. The Committee submits a proposed annual budget for approval by the Board of Directors.
Nominating Committee
To identify and recommend appropriate and competent individuals for appointment and nomination to the BC HRMA Board of Directors.
Human Resources Committee
To ensure the Human Resources and professional people practices of the Association meet the appropriate professional standards.
Volunteer Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of each volunteer to attend scheduled meetings for the committee they agree to assist. If unable to attend a scheduled meeting, it is the responsibility of the volunteer to advise the committee chair accordingly and to follow-up after the meeting to learn what transpired, and be up-to-date on resulting activities.
Volunteers should also be prompt in order to ensure other's schedules are not adversely impacted and to avoid wasting the valuable time of others.
Everyone's viewpoint is valuable. It is the responsibility of each volunteer to speak freely and listen attentively, respect others, stay on topic. Uphold confidentiality when information should not be discussed outside a committee meeting. Ask for clarification if you do not understand what is being discussed. Complete tasks on time.
