BC HRMA is the exclusive certifying body in British Columbia for the nationally recognized Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation. CHRP represents the ethical standards, body of knowledge and level of expertise sought by today’s employers. Certification is fast becoming a requirement in hiring mid-level and senior HR managers and consultants.

Currently over 21,000 HR practitioners across Canada have earned their CHRP designation.

Through national CHRP certification, the HR profession continues to play an important role in linking business strategies and people management, and in securing HR's position as an equal business partner at the senior management table.

HR generalists and practitioners now meet an even more demanding set of professional performance standards. CHRP candidates must demonstrate capabilities in a wide range of HR functions as well as skills in strategic thinking, business insight, change management and problem resolution.

Practitioners are required to write two national exams in order to obtain their CHRP designation.

The National Knowledge Exam® (NKE) tests candidates on HR knowledge and theory. The National Professional Practice Assessment® (NPPA) tests knowledge, experience and practical applications within the human resources environment through case studies.

Once the CHRP designation is earned, professional members are required to maintain membership in their provincial association and pay annual CHRP dues. They are also required to recertify every three years in order to maintain their professional standing.

CHRP dues collected by BC HRMA allow us to fulfill the mandate of administering the CHRP in BC and our commitment to offering you a high standard of service. A part of these dues covers governance, staffing, supplies and the development of new CHRP services including an online CHRP recertification log. The remainder of the fees allows BC HRMA to work in conjunction with the CCHRA to maintain the standards and continuously raise the profile of CHRP both in BC and at a national level. One hundred per cent of professional dues collected are reinvested in CHRP.
