Recertification
To maintain certification, holders of the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation must maintain their membership in good standing with BC HRMA, or the provincial association where they reside.
CHRP holders are required to recertify every three years through their provincial association. Recertification can be achieved either through reassessment by the National Professional Practice Assessment® (NPPA), or through a range of professional development activities.
The assessment of experience will replace the NPPA completely after the final sitting of the NPPA exam in June of 2013, removing this as a recertification option.
Find a summary of important recertification information and forms below. More detailed information on recertification can be found on www.chrp.ca.
Recertification by Reassessment
If you choose to recertify through reassessment while this option is still available, you must write the National Professional Practice Assessment® (NPPA) before the end of your three-year CHRP designation period. You must indicate your intention to write the NPPA by:
- Contacting the CHRP registrar at chrp@bchrma.org; and
- Registering for the next NPPA exam session.
There is a cost of $500 plus HST to write the NPPA.
Please note: the degree requirement does not apply to current CHRP holders who are rewriting the NPPA in order to recertify.
A reminder that the assessment of experience will replace the NPPA completely after the final sitting of the NPPA exam in June of 2013, removing this as a recertification option.
Recertification by Professional Development Activities
The majority of CHRPs recertify through professional development activities. To recertify through this route you are asked to outline the activities you have engaged in over the last three years in the National Recertification Log and submit this, along with a CHRP Recertification Application Form to the CHRP Registrar.
In the log, various professional development activities have been assigned points. You must acquire a minimum of 100 points worth of professional development activities in two or more development categories within the three-year period.
Recertification logs are only accepted a maximum of six months before your expiration date.
There is a cost of $55 plus HST to recertify when submitting your log.

CHRP Recertification Audit
Recertification audits are carried out by the Recertification Audit Committee twice a year. Selection of a recertification log for audit is random based on CHRP ID numbers. The audit process will reconfirm the eligibility for recertification, review the completeness of documentation, and verify the appropriateness, suitability and adequacy of the professional development activities listed in the recertification log. If audited, a CHRP holder must provide supporting documents for their recertification log to the recertification committee within 30 days.
