Recertification

Certified Human Resources Professionals (CHRPs) are required to recertify every three years. CHRPs can recertify using one of two methods: completion of the Recertification Log, or passing the National Professional Practice Assessment® (NPPA).
The current Recertification Log was introduced in 2006. In the years since the Log was introduced, the provincial human resources associations have become familiar with it, allowing them to provide guidance for revisions. A review of the Log was undertaken in 2009.
Under the oversight of the Professional Standards Committee (PSC), the National Recertification Committee (NRC) began this review in January 2009. They presented the proposal at the CCHRA Board Meeting on May 28, 2010, where it was approved. The modified Recertification Log reflects the importance of the values gained by a blend of experience, learning and leadership in the practice of human resources.
Each Development Activity was reviewed and revised as necessary to ensure a clear understanding of what is necessary to secure acceptance of the activity. The allocation of points of each Development Activity was compared to each of the other Development Activities to ensure equity. Modifications to the Recertification Log are as follows:

Re-ordered development categories to focus attention on activities that reflect the importance of experience and the application of learned behaviors, as follows:
- Significant Work Projects/Initiatives
- Leadership
- Instruction
- Continuing Education
- Research or Publication
- National Professional Practice Assessment

A requirement to accumulate the required one hundred (100) points in two (2) or more categories to ensure a broad range of application and learning takes place during the three (3) year recertification period, where previously categories were capped at a maximum number of points.
The Implementation Plan is as follows:
- January 1, 2011: new log may be used
- January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011, members recertifying may use the new log or the existing log during this transition period;
- January 1, 2012: only the new Log will be accepted.
