Recertification
Overview

Maintaining Your CHRP
As a CHRP Member, you are required to recertify every three years through your provincial HR association (BC HRMA) in order to demonstrate your continued mastery of the required HR body of knowledge. This can be done either by re-examination or by performing and documenting professional development experience and activities.

Ways to Recertify

1. Recertification by Professional Development Activities
To recertify by engaging in professional development activities, you must acquire 100 points of professional development activities and experience from various categories. Points are assigned to each type of professional development activity - details of the renewal points assigned are listed on the CHRP Recertification Log. To recertify, you must submit your log and recertification application to CHRP@bchrma.org. There is a cost of $55 plus GST to recertify when submitting your log.

The CHRP log has been revised with more detailed information for each category of activity. Only the current format of the recertification log will be accepted. Older logs that are submitted to BC HRMA after December 31st, 2006 will not be reviewed and will be returned to the member.

Please remember NOT to submit any documentation with your recertification log. In the event that your recertification log is randomly selected for audit, you will be required to provide supporting documentation at that time.

2. Recertification by National Professional Practice AssessmentTM (NPPA)
The second option is the successful completion of the National Professional Practice AssessmentTM (NPPA), for which the recertification candidate receives 100 points towards recertification. CHRP members must register for the exam that is closest to their recertification date. Since the exams are only offered twice per year, this may result in the exam being written on a date that is past the official recertification date. The CHRP Member will be permitted to continue using their designation under these circumstances as long as the date chosen to write the exam is the closest date available.

Should the CHRP member write the exam before their recertification date and not achieve the 70% passing grade, they will be allowed one more opportunity to write and pass the exam after the recertification date. You are only allowed one chance to write the exam once your recertification date has passed and it must be the closest exam to said date.

Once you are successful in passing the exam (i.e. achieving a score of at least 70%), you must submit the last page of the recertification log with your notification of pass. You are not required to submit a recertification application.

Please note: We will only accept recertification logs a maximum of 6 months before your expiration date.

Professional development activities may include a variety of combinations of the following:

  1. Continuing Education – maximum 100 points
  2. Leadership – maximum 70 points
  3. Instruction – maximum 70 points
  4. Significant Work Projects/Initiatives – maximum 75 points
  5. Research or Publication – maximum 50 points
  6. National Professional Practice AssessmentTM – 100 points
