The National Knowledge Exam (NKE) consists of 150 multiple choice questions. Each question lists four possible answers, only one of which is correct. As an addendum to the Knowledge Exam, there may also be a section on provincial legislation affecting HR.
Registration
You must register for the National Knowledge Exam and Professional Practice Assessment separately. After registering and successfully passing the NKE, you can then register for the National Professional Practice Assessment (NPPA).

Candidates must be a member of BC HRMA in good standing in order to write the NKE.
Exam Info
- The exam will be offered the first Saturday in May and October each year unless the date coincides with a religious or major holiday.
- Deadline for registration to write the CHRP exams are 2 months before the exam date.
- The exam is based on knowledge of major human resources functions.
- The passing grade is 70%.
- Candidates can retake the exam as many times as needed, but with a fee for each sitting.
- The exam fee is non-refundable if registration is canceled after the registration deadline.
- Registrants may defer writing the exam to the next registration date. Please note our deferral policy.
