Certification
Overview

You must be a BC HRMA member in good standing to begin the CHRP certification process. Subsequently, individuals holding a CHRP designation or CHRP Candidate status must renew their provincial membership with their HR association every year and pay the applicable association fees. Your association will notify CCHRA that your membership and accounts are up-to-date, so that your name can be maintained on the National CHRP Registry.

To obtain the CHRP designation, you will be required to successfully complete two exams. The National Knowledge ExamTM (NKE) tests your knowledge of the theory and standards upon which HR practices are based and the National Professional Practice AssessmentTM (NPPA) tests your HR experience and your ability to determine how to best handle typical situations.

Candidates must successfully pass the NKE before writing the NPPA. Both exams require a minimum pass rate of 70% in order to achieve your CHRP designation.

Please note the new degree requirement:

Effective January 1, 2011, CHRP Candidates – those who have passed the National Knowledge Exam™ (NKE) - will require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in order to register for the National Professional Practice Assessment™ (NPPA) and qualify for the CHRP designation. More information is available on the CCHRA website.

Both exams will cover your expertise in the following seven core competencies of Human Resources:

  • Professional Practice in Human Resources
  • Organizational Effectiveness
  • Staffing
  • Employee and Labour Relations
  • Total Compensation
  • Organizational Learning, Development and Training
  • Workplace Health and Safety
