Rising Star Award
   

The Rising Star Award recognizes and publicly honours a BC HRMA member who is 'lighting the HR community on fire'. This award recognizes the individuals who hold the future of our profession in their hands and are the lifeblood for many of BC HRMA's volunteer committees.

Eligibility

As a nominee you must:

  • Be a BC HRMA member in good standing at the time of the nomination
  • Work in British Columbia or work for an organization with established operations in British Columbia
  • Be a new graduate (within the last five years) of a post-secondary HR or related program
  • Have no more than five years experience working in an HR field and have no more than ten years total career experience
If you are selected as a finalist you must:
  • Agree to complete the full nomination form with further documentation by February 6, 2012
  • Consent in writing to the nomination and publication of both name and photo in connection with the BC HRMA Rising Star Award
If you are selected as the award recipient you must:
  • Be able to travel to Vancouver for the award video production the week of March 5, 2012 in Vancouver (award recipients are responsible for covering their own travel expenses).
  • Be available to attend the Award luncheon during the BC HRMA 50th Annual Conference, on Friday, April 27, 2012 in Vancouver (award recipients will receive complimentary tickets to attend).
Award Process

The judging process for the Rising Star Award is broken down into two separate stages. Preliminary nominations are reviewed by an award committee panel who selects their top choices to move onto the second step which is completing a full nomination package. Shortlisted finalists will then submit a full nomination package which will be put forth to the judging committee for the selection of the award recipient.

(There are no longer any presentations or interviews by the judges for the Rising Star Award. Finalists may however receive a phone call to discuss their nomination by a committee member.)

The award recipient will be notified in advanced in order to make arrangements for video filming.

Award recipients will be announced at the Award Luncheon on April 27, 2012.

Judging Criteria

The BC HRMA Rising Star Award requires a demonstrated level of accomplishment in four areas. While the nominee may excel in one or more of the four areas, a demonstrated accomplishment in all four is required to receive the award.

The four criteria are:
  • Contribution in the Workplace: The candidate makes large contributions to his/her workplace through innovating and enriching HR policies and programs.
  • Education: The candidate is committed to pursuing HR-related higher education through a post-secondary institution, CHRP designation or other professional development means.
  • Volunteerism and Community Involvement: The candidate actively volunteers with BC HRMA or other professional or community associations (Example: events, charities, community programs, etc).
  • Personal Traits: The candidate demonstrates: leadership, ambition, innovation, creativity, drive, determination and energy in all he/she does.
Judging Committee

The distinguished judging committee will be comprised of BC HRMA Board Members, past recipients, senior human resources practitioners and consultants with insight and experience in initiatives and people practices programs.

Terms and Conditions:
  • Both BC HRMA members and non-members are encouraged to be a nominator.
  • Nominees must be members in good standing of BC HRMA at the time of nomination.
  • Nominations are accepted from public or private sector individuals.
  • Self-nominations cannot be made in this category.
  • The BC HRMA award committee reserves the right to check the nominee’s references and to confirm the accuracy of the information provided in the nomination package.
  • There is no fee to submit a nomination, however, award recipients are responsible for any travel costs related to their participation in the awards program.

Benefits for Award Recipients

The recipient of the Rising Star Award will receive:
  • Public recognition at BC HRMA’s 2011 Conference during the Awards Luncheon
  • Recognition in the HRVoice.org e-newsletter which reaches more than 5,000 members and 3,000 affiliates
  • Exposure in PeopleTalk magazine – mention in the post-conference article and a full page follow up article
  • Recognition and congratulations in outside media publications
  • One complimentary VIP registration for the 2012 BC HRMA Conference (does not include hotel or travel expenses)
