Greater Vancouver Advisory Council

The Greater Vancouver Advisory Council handles the planning and implementation of local BC HRMA activities and is made up of members representing a broad range of HR experience levels and areas of practice as follows:

Chair and Sponsorship - Gene Lang, CHRP

Gene is the Vice President of Franchise Development for Dominion Lending Centres Inc. He has worked as an HR Generalist primarily with small businesses in high-tech and engineering and currently oversees all aspects of HR Management and Compliance for this national franchisor of mortgage brokerages. He began serving on the Seed Advisory Council in October 2008.

Outgoing Chair and Provincial Awards - Pauline Johnson, CHRP

Pauline is the Manager of Human Resources with Envirotest Canada, contractor for the AirCare program with twenty years of experience gained in various industries, including retail, consumer services and hospitality. She began serving on the Seed Advisory Council in November 2008.

Administration and Online Community - Julia Thorner, CHRP

Julia is the HR Generalist for Paladin Security. She has worked on the membership committee and this is her first year serving on the council.

Communications - Angie Ng, CHRP

Angie is a senior Generalist at Marquise Group. She graduated from Simon Fraser University with a degree in Business Administration specializing in HR and Finance. It is Angie's second year on Council.

Member Events and Networking - Brenda Kennedy, CHRP

Brenda is the Director of Human Resources, Western Canada for Compass Group Canada. She has worked as a HR professional for 13 years in the private and public sectors since recieving her Master's degree in Industrial Relations. This is her first year on the Greater Vancouver council.

Membership - Oson Kin On Chan, CHRP

Oson graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Commerce degree specializing in Human Resources Management. He is currently working as Human Resources Administrator with Kohl & Frisch Limited. It is Oson’s second year on Council.

Mentoring - Kuldip Taggar, CHRP

Kuldip is Principal and Lead Consultant with Taggar HR Consulting. Kuldip specializes in working with small businesses in developing and implementing strategies and practices to engage, retain and attract top talent. She is an active member of BC HRMA and this is her second year on Council.

Post Secondary Liaison - Shandele Yuen

Shandele is a Recruitment Assistant for The Counsel Network®, based in their Vancouver office. She is currently completing her Human Resources Management Certificate at BCIT. This is her second year on Council.

Post Secondary Liaison - Lindsay Thorpe, CHRP

Lindsay is an HR Advisor, KN&V Chartered Accountants. It is Lindsay's first year on the Advisory Council.

Professional Development and CHRP - Nicole Burke, CHRP

Nicole is a senior HR Advisor with the Vancouver Aquarium. It is Nicole's first year serving on the Advisory Council.

Public Relations - Elena Romero, CHRP

Elena is pursuing a career in HR Consulting with a focusing in Human Capital Management. Elena is a recent graduate of the HR Diploma Program from the BCIT and also holds her B.A. in Psychology from Simon Fraser University. This is her second year on Council.

Volunteer - Govind Minhas, CHRP Candidate

Govind is a Recruiter for Staples Business Depot - HR Western Region. His area of specialty and interest is recruitment and employee retention/engagement. It is Govind’s second year on the council.
