Simon Cumming
Member Relations, Professional Development, Professional Accreditation, Mentoring, Leadership.
Many an environmental group has censured Simon Cumming in the past for the number of trees that must be sacrificed to accommodate the printing of his resume; the myriad of roles that comprise Simon's employment history simply take up way too many pages. These include - among others - Manager of Community Relations, BC Hydro; Managing Director, Community Futures Development Association of BC; Director of Marketing, BC Wine Institute; Labour Relations Officer, BC Liquor Distribution Branch; and Communications Officer, Man In Motion World Tour. Simon's first job was delivering newspapers in Britannia Beach, BC, circa 1974, and it was from this experience he developed Simon's Simple Rule of Working: avoid jobs that require the ability to fend off rabid dogs.
Simon's role at the BC HRMA is to provide strategic leadership in the areas of Member Relations, Professional Development and CHRP accreditation, and wherever else his knowledge and skills may be applied. He has also been known to blurt out some of the most wretched jokes ever heard, and is rumoured to be in possession of the world's largest collection of jokes that start with, "So this guy walks into a bar."
Simon lives in Cloverdale with his wife Linda and three children, and enjoys softball, coaching soccer, reading and trying to figure out ways to shorten his resume in his spare time.
