Vancouver Island

The Vancouver Island Advisory Council handles the planning and implementation of local BC HRMA activities and is made up of members representing a broad range of HR experience levels and areas of practice.

BC HRMA members are encouraged to participate on the Advisory Council or as a volunteer. The Vancouver Island Advisory Council welcomes input from all BC HRMA members who would like to be involved with the growth of HR practice in the region.

Your Vancouver Island Advisory Council:

Chair - Helen Wale

Helen joined the advisory council in 2010 in the Communications Portfolio, in 2011 lead the Awards Portfolio, spent a year as Incoming Chair and is now the Chair for Vancouver Island. Helen is Director – Service Centre, People and Organizational Development with the Vancouver Island Health Authority

Outgoing Chair – Denise Lloyd, CHRP

Completing her two year term as Chair, Denise will spend one year on the Advisory Council as Outgoing Chair. She is an HR and Management Consultant with her own firm, EngagedHR, and her specialty is working with both the non-profit and corporate hi-tech sectors.

Awards – Nella Garman, CHRP

Nella spent two years working as a Research Assistant in the Awards Portfolio and we are pleased that she has taken the Lead role this year.  Nella is an HR Consultant with the University of Victoria.

CHRP and Professional Development – Glenn Barned, CHRP

Glenn is in his first year as the Lead of the CHRP/PD Portfolio, responsible for the oversight of Roundtables throughout the Island, professional development and CHRP activities. Glenn is an Occupational Health and Safety Consultant with his own firm, RGB Enterprises.

Communications – Beth Harris, CHRP

Beth assisted in the Communications Portfolio as a writer, and in the Networking Portfolio as a Mixer Ambassador before accepting the Lead Role for the Communications Portfolio, where she is now in her 2nd year. Beth works with the Vancouver Island Health Authority as an Analyst in the Attendance Management Program.

Membership – Judy Collins, CHRP

Judy joined the Advisory Council in 2007 and is responsible for the Membership Portfolio. This portfolio is responsible for calling new members, hosting Member Breakfasts in Victoria and connecting with potential members for Vancouver Island. Judy works with LEAGUE Financial Partners.

Mentoring -
Deborah Lang, CHRP
Theresa Carrie, CHRP
Carole Gosse, CHRP

Deborah, Theresa and Carole make up our Mentoring team for Vancouver Island, hosting Orientations, Mid-Point Learning and Wind-Up sessions, as well as connecting with the Mentoring Pairs throughout the year.    Theresa is an HR Generalist with Shaw Communications and Carole is an HR Instructor at Camosun College.

Networking – Lyndsey Nelson, CHRP

Lyndsey was part of the Networking Portfolio as an Ambassador, before accepting the responsibility to be the Lead of this Portfolio this year.  Lyndsey is an Associate with EngagedHR.

Post Secondary – Heather McDonald, CHRP

After supporting the Post Secondary Portfolio in the HR Cafe last year, Heather has joined the Advisory Council as the Lead of the Post Secondary Portfolio.  She works in the Co-Operative Education Department at Camosun College.


Volunteering – Rebecca Lumley, CHRP

This is Rebecca’s third year on the Vancouver Island Advisory Council and she is responsible for the recruitment, placement and engagement of volunteers working with the various portfolios. Rebecca is the Manager, Human Resources & Organizational Development with the BC Oil and Gas Commission.
